Our certified organic farm is nestled in the quiet cliff side of the Delaware River Watershed.  Here we cultivate native and medicinal varieties of herbs, fruit, mushrooms, and wild edibles in a regenerative design system that mimics the natural ecology. Our approach to cultivation is motivated by a philosophical position that recognizes the inherent worth of all living creatures and is concerned with improving the overall well being of an interconnected ecology.

The landscape of the northeast was once home to a myriad of native fruit and nut species that populated the canopy of the old growth forests.  The forest breaks and understory edges were home to wild berries and a changing succession of deeply regarded medicinal herbs and mushrooms.  Many of these native species, such as pawpaw, persimmon, and elderberry, are being reestablished here as part of a regenerative vision that combines agriculture and restoration.

Our gardens take the form of young forests, mosaic meadows, and shaded stream banks.  Native fruit trees grow alongside berries, medicinal herbs, herbaceous roots, and mushrooms in a storied architecture that mimics a naturalized forest succession.  Cultivation occurs within an evolving framework as species mature and yields increase in a process of unfolding succession. Perennial root systems stabilize the soil, flowers bloom as forage for the pollinators, and song birds nest in the trees.  Designing a cohesive and interactive agricultural system at the holistic level is exemplary of a familiar trope; “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.”

We are certified organic growers committed to keeping our environment free of pesticides & herbicides.  The overall health of the system relies on the synergistic relationship between the people, plants, animals, and a robust soil micro biome.  Healthy functioning parts create an overall harmony throughout the system.  Complementary relationships are formed at every level of the polyculture, from the mycorrhizal fungi and roots, to the blossoms and the bees.

Many of the species we grow here, such as black cohosh, american ginseng, and ramps, are disappearing from the wild.  Growing these plants allows us to harvest them for use without depleting natural stands.  We incorporate these medicinal and native species in cultivated environments that mimic their natural habitat.  This process continues to close the perceived division between the cultivated landscape and the natural world.  Our wild edges dominate the landscape.
