“Can agriculture transition from a major source of water pollution to a major force for improving water quality and, in turn, for protecting human and environmental health?”

That question was the subject of a white paper titled, Water Farming: Managing Agricultural Lands for Clean & Safe Water, recently published by Pasa Sustainable Agriculture late last year.

The downloadable booklet features key approaches and perspectives on specific farming practices to protect and enrich watersheds.

Featured on page 21 is a profile of Sankanac CSA, who discuss the influence of a series of living swales and berms we designed and they implemented on their site to manage water flow. We’ve been working with Sankanac, and now the larger Camphill Kimberton Community, for the last couple of years after they initially reached out to us for help with severe flooding issues on their farm. Collaboratively, we were able to redesign the water flow patterns of the landscape to eliminate pooling and erosive run-off, while preserving the ecological integrity, and agricultural functionality of the site.

This is a recommended read for folks interested in regenerative farming that positively impacts watersheds.
